bloomin' onion bread

(1 rating)
Doesn't look anything like the original picture, but it still was really good & addicting.

I think the next time I make it, I will slice the bread in half (like if you were making garlic bread) & then proceed from there.

This naughty Bloomin' Onion Bread has cheese stuffed in every crack & is cut just like the Bloomin' Onion from Outback. This is really enough to feed a small army. It's a fun way to serve bread because everyone can just pull off a piece of cheesy onion bread. This would be a great appetizer or bread for a meal.

Ingredients For bloomin' onion bread

  • 1 c
    butter, melted
  • 3 Tbsp
    lemon juice
  • 2 Tbsp
    dijon mustard
  • 1 Tbsp
    garlic powder
  • 1 tsp
    onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    celery salt
  • 2 tsp
    poppy seeds
  • 1/2 c
green onions (both greens & whites), finely diced
  • 16 oz
    monterey jack cheese, thinly sliced
  • 1 loaf
    sourdough bread, unsliced

How To Make bloomin' onion bread

  • 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • 2
In a small bowl, whisk together the first 8 ingredients; set aside.
  • 3
Cut the bread lengthwise & widthwise without cutting through the bottom crust. This can be a little tricky going the second way but the bread is very forgiving. NOTE: Through experience....it'll be easier to cut lengthwise first, then width. Unfortunately I did it the other way & it was a little hard to do.
  • 4
Place on a foil lined baking sheet. Insert cheese slices between cuts.
  • 5
    Drizzle butter mixture over bread.
  • 6
Tent in foil (so that it is not touching the cheese - you know what will happen); place on a baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 15 minutes. Unwrap the bread & bake 10 more minutes, or until cheese is melted.
