This brown soda is a lovely brown bread ,great to make in the winter with a big pot of soup. My children love to take a slice or two for there lunch box for school.. So I hope you like it and enjoy..... :)

Ingredients For an irish brown soda bread

  • 12 oz
    coasrse ground wholemeal
  • 4 oz
    plain flour
  • 2 oz
    wheatgrem
  • 12
    fl oz buttermilk
  • 1 tsp
    bread soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt

How To Make an irish brown soda bread

    sieve the plain flour, salt, and bread soda into a bowl. Mix in the wholemeal and wheatgrem. Add enough buttermilk to make a soft dough. Turn onto a lightly floured surface .Knead until the mixture comes together smoothly. Place the dough on a floured baking sheet. Cut a cross over the top.

    Place in the centre oven position and bake in a pre-heated oven at 200c for 40 minutes approximately. When bake the bread will have a hallow sound if trapped on the base. cool on a wire tray with a clean dry tea towel wrapped around the bread at this stage to give a softer crust.

    NOTE= You can use cow's milk if wish, but may produce a lighter crust colour when baked, that's alright. hope you all like and enjoy...:)
