This recipe is truly an old one, and can be doubled to feed a crowd. It is made with ingredients sure to be in the good cook's kitchen. Sour milk with a teaspoon of vinegar or lemon juice. My family has always loved these pancakes, with real maple syrup or a good fruit syrup.

    egg
  • 1 1/4 c
    buttermilk or soured milk
  • 1 1/4 c
    flour
  • 2 Tbsp
    soft shortening
  • 1 tsp
    sugar
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt

How To Make grandma's own

    Heat griddle while mixing batter. Beat egg. Measure flour by dip-level-pour or sifting.Beat in remaining ingredients until batter is smooth.

    Leave soured milk on the counter until it looks curdled, with little lumps. Add to batter.

    Makes about 16 pancakes.
