Ingredients

1 stick
butter
2 c
sugar
4 large
eggs
3 c
sifted flour
1 1/2 tsp
baking soda
1/4 c
orange juice
1 c
buttermilk
1 large
orange rind
1 c
chopped nuts
1 c
chopped dates
1 tsp
salt
1/4 c
chopped nuts for top

Step-By-Step

1Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2in a large bowl, cream sugar and butter .
3Add eggs one at at time, beating after ea. blend flour, salt, baking soda, sift together.
4Add buttermilk and orange juice alternately to egg mixture.
5Fold in orange rind, nuts and daters which have been dredged w/flour to the batter.
6pour into greased and floured pan, making one angel cake pan or 2 loaf pans.
7bake at 350 for 1 hour.
8remove from the oven. Let cool for 20 min. and turn out on rack
9while still warm, pour a glaze of 1 grated orange rind, 1 c. sugar, 1c. orange juice heated until sugar dissolves, over cakes top and sides.
