This is another heirloom recipe, originally gotten out of this cookbook, that I have been cooking out of for about 40 yrs. And, my grandmother and mom, before me.

Ingredients For glazed lemon bread

  • 4 Tbsp
    butter
  • 3/4 c
    sugar
  • 2 lg
    eggs
  • 2 tsp
    grated lemon peel
  • 2 c
    sifted all-purpose flour or unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 3/4 c
    milk
  • 1/2 c
    chopped walnuts (optional)
  • 2 tsp
    lemon juice
  • 2 Tbsp
    sugar

How To Make glazed lemon bread

    Preheat oven to 350°F, and grease an 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 2 1/2 inch loaf pan or baking dish.

    Cream together butter and the 3/4 cup sugar, until light and fluffy. Add eggs and lemon peel; beat well. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt; add to creamed mixture, alternately with milk. Beat, until smooth, after each addition. Stir in walnuts (if using).

    Bake 50 to 55 minutes, or until done. Let cool in pan 10 minutes. Combine lemon juice and 2 Tbs. sugar; spoon over top. Remove from pan; cool. Wrap; store overnight.
