Ingredients

2 c
masarepa cornmeal
1 1/4 c
warm water
1/2 c
milk or buttermilk
4 Tbsp
butter, melted
1 tsp
salt
2 Tbsp
flour
1/2 tsp
sugar

Step-By-Step

1Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Mix all ingredients until smooth. Let sit 5-10 minutes so cornmeal absorbs liquid.

2Form into 8-10 disks, about 3" in diameter. Repair small cracks in edges. If there are too many cracks, knead in some more liquid.

3Lightly grease heavy skillet and cook arepas in batches until brown on each side, about 2-3 minutes per side.

4Place on cookie sheet and bake 8-10 minutes.
