Combine All-Bran and milk in an electric mixer bowl. Let stand until most of the moisture is taken up by the cereal. Add the egg and shortening, beat well. In another bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Add to the mixture in the mixer bowl. Stir only until all ingredients are combined. Fill greased muffin tins (or muffin tins with paper inserts) 2/3 full. Bake for about 30 minutes.
