biscuit mix (bisquick substitute)

This recipe was given to me by my Mother in the early '70s; it is the same as Bisquick. It can be stored in an airtight container for several months. I usually cut the recipe in half because it makes such a large quantity.

Ingredients For biscuit mix (bisquick substitute)

  • 5 lb
    flour
  • 6 oz
    baking powder
  • 6 oz
    sugar
  • 2 oz
    salt
  • 2 c
    shortening
  • 3 c
    powdered milk

How To Make biscuit mix (bisquick substitute)

    Mix together until well combined or "mealy". Store in an air-tight container. Use in recipes as "Bisquick". Note: The best method I have found for "mixing" is to use two table knives, one in each hand, and "scissor" them back and forth in cutting motions.
