Jalapeno-Bacon Wonton Poppers

Made these for staff meeting and they were an instant favorite. Quite spicy and I tweaked the original version by adding bacon to the mix. Great for those game time parties as well.

Notes from the Test Kitchen:
Adding bacon to the cream cheese mixture really steps up the filling flavor. You get a smokey flavor from the bacon and a bit of heat from the jalapeno - so good. Crunchy on the outside, creamy on the inside, these are sure to be a hit on game day!

Ingredients

12 oz
cream cheese, softened
1 c
monterey jack cheese, shredded
3/4 c
cooked, crumbled bacon
2 can(s)
(4 oz) diced jalapeno peppers
4 large
cloves garlic, minced

green onions, diced
2 pkg
(16 oz) packages wonton wrappers
oil, for frying

Directions Step-By-Step

In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, Monterey Jack cheese, bacon, jalapeno peppers, garlic, and green onions. (I usually prepare in advance to meld flavors.)

Fill wonton wrappers with about 1 teaspoon cream cheese mixture each. Moisten edges with water and fold into a triangle shape, sealing edges.

In a large skillet, heat oil over medium high heat. Drop a few wontons into oil at a time and quickly fry, turning once. Remove when golden brown and drain on paper towels. Serve warm!
