you can use either corn meal or corn flour. for corn flour you need to add extra. Plus you can add extra spices to the dough for something yummy.

Ingredients For arepas de queso

  • 2 1/2 c
    milk
  • 1/2 stick
    butter, cut into pieces
  • 1 1/2 c
    cornmeal or 3 1/2 cups of corn flour (when using the flour start with 1 1/2 then go from there
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 Tbsp
    sugar
  • 1 c
    mozzarella cheese
  • 2 Tbsp
    oil

How To Make arepas de queso

    Bring to boil in a small saucepan over low heat the milk. Remove from heat and add the butter

    In large bowl combine the cornmeal(flour), sugar, salt, and cheese. (when using flour start with 11/2 cups and go up from there. usually takes about 2 1/2 in the end. Add the hot milk/butter mixture and let stand. cheese should melt. 1-2 minutes for soft dough to form.

    Form into 12 balls and flatten with palms into patties. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil on griddle or skillet over medium high heat. Cook arepas til cooked through and slightly brown 6-8 minutes on each side. add more oil when needed Serve warm.
