Sweet, Hot and Sour Mash Meatballs

I think a moist, flavorful meatball starts with a combination of ground beef and ground pork sausage.
Apple butter adds some body and a bit of sweetness to the meatball sauce.

Ingredients

FOR THE MEATBALLS

1 lb
pork sausage
1 lb
ground beef
1/2 c
plain dry bread crumbs
2 large
eggs, beaten
1/4 c
milk
1/2 c
finely chopped onion
1/2 tsp
salt
1/2 tsp
black pepper

FOR THE APPLE BUTTER JACK SAUCE

3/4 c
mustard, spicy brown
1/2 c
apple butter
1/3 c
jack daniel's tennessee whiskey
1/4 c
brown sugar
1 Tbsp
cider vinegar
1 Tbsp
worcestershire sauce
salt and pepper to taste
tobasco sauce to taste

Step-By-Step

1To make the meatballs: Heat the oven to 375. Combine all the meatball ingredients in al large mixing bowl. Blend well with your hands.
2Form the meat mixture into 1 1/2 inch balls. Place them on an ungreased baking sheet (with sides to catch the grease), or on a jelly-roll pan.
3Bake about 30 minutes or until browned and cooked through.
4To make the Sauce: Combine all ingredients in a large skillet. Stir until well blended.
5Stir in the cooked meatballs. Coat with the sauce and cook about 5 minutes until the sauce has thickened slightly.
Serve with toothpicks.
6NOTE: The meatballs may be frozen and reheated at 350 for about 20 minutes.
