These have been a favorite appetizer/snack at many get togethers. Everyone just seems to gobble them up. Everyone will think you spent hours on these babies - but once you see how easy they are and how often they are requested, you will keep the filling in the freezer ready to go at a moments notice. Perfect for a fancy appetizer, tailgate party, or anything in between. I hope y'all enjoy them (:

Ingredients

1 lb
breakfast sausage - you can use hot if you like
8 oz
mushrooms, white or baby portabello, fresh
3
green onions, finely diced - white and green parts
8 oz
cream cheese, room temperature
your favorite recipe for pie dough or refrigerated store bought works well too

Step-By-Step

1In a medium skillet on medium heat, cook sausage - breaking it up as you would ground beef.

2In your food processor, pulse mushrooms until finely diced. You may chop finely by hand if you don't own a food processor - the food processor is just a time saver.

Step 3 Direction Photo

3Add mushrooms, green onion, and cream cheese to sausage, stir until well combined. Cook until thickened and bubbly. Remove from heat and allow to cool to room temperature.

Step 4 Direction Photo

4On a floured surface roll out pie crust until it is 1/8" thick. Cut with a 2" biscuit cutter or even a glass will work. I used a pieriogi form cutter - just another time saver.

Step 5 Direction Photo

5Add 1 teaspoon of sausage filling to the center of cut circle. Fold and crimp edges using a fork. Place on baking sheet.

Step 6 Direction Photo

6Bake at 350 degrees for 15 - 20 minutes until crust is golden brown. Serve these warm and enjoy!

Any unused filling freezes very well for snack-attacks or for drop-in guests (:
