1 bx	Spice cake mix
2 can(s)	Sliced apples, undrained (not pie filling)
1 stk	margarine or butter, melted
1/2 c	chopped pecans

Judy's Notes:

The flavor of the cake mix and the fruit used can be varied. I have used yellow cake mix with peaches and also with pineapple with great results.

Directions

Dump apples in 9" x 13" cake pan and spread evenly. Sprinkle dry cake mix over apples. Pour melted margarine all over dry mix. Top with chopped pecans. Bake at 375° for about 40 minutes or until bubbly. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

I don't think I have ever seen can apples that were not apple pie filling. Where do you buy them? Can you give me a product brand name?

Actually, the only place I've ever found them is at one of the dollar stores (99¢ Only) here in Las Vegas. I don't even know the brand name of them. I'm sorry I can't help more than this.

Actually, Ali, I have looked at all four of our major food stores here in Las Vegas (Albertson's, Smith's, Von's and Food4Less) and none of them carry just canned apples; they carry apple pie filling, but not just canned apples.

Try a Cracker Barrel restaurant. They have spiced apples in a jar. They would work great for this recipe.

If you can't find the sliced apples, sliced pears work great! I made a recipe like this in the crock pot (on high for 3 hours). I couldn't find the canned sliced apples, so I bought sliced pears, and it was delicious!

I make this all the time and always use apple pie filling! It turns out won-der-ful! We like it better using a yellow or white cake mix though. And I always add a little cinnamon to my pie filling.

Oh, I don't melt my butter either, just cut it up into small cubes and drop it all over the cake mix.
