Leslie's Notes:
Not your usual salad, but delicious nonetheless!

Comments from the Test Kitchen:
Salad? Dessert? Either! This sweet, fruity treat would be right at home with your meal or as the perfect dinnertime ending.

To keep the cream cheese mixture from sticking to your spatula as you spread it, just run it under hot water. Does the trick every time!

Directions

1
Mix crushed pretzels, margarine and 3 Tablespoons sugar together and press into a 9x13 inch pan. Bake at 400 for 8 minutes. Cool.
2
Mix softened cream cheese and 1 cup sugar. Fold the 2 cups thawed whipping topping into cream cheese mixture and spread over cooled pretzel crust. Dissolve strawberry gelatin in bioling water and add frozen strawberries. Chill until syrupy, then pour over the cream cheese layer and refrigerate. Ccut into squares and garnish with whipped topping and a whole strawberry. Enjoy!

I have been making this "salad" for years and it is always a favorite. Not really a salad, more like a dessert, but delicious. I like that we call it salad though....sounds so much healthier....

I have also been making this for several years. I use the glaze that is already made up. When I lived in Oregon I used the fresh berries. I still do but they don't have the flavor as the ones in Oregon. You can also use rasberries or any other berry. Wonderful recipe and people think it is nuts on the bottom instead of pretzels.

This is so good. I wanted to stay true to the recipe for the first time, but I can see how you can change it to any fruit you want. I just love Jell-O recipes. Does anyone have a recipe for one called "Red Top Salad?" Someone made it for me when I was young and I've been trying to find the recipe ever since. It has cheddar cheese in it. Thanks!

This is so retro...my mom used to make something very similar in the 60's and 70's but with graham crackers...I'd been bugging her for the recipe and what do you know, this one's so similar! Thanks :o)

This is an awesome dessert, we all used to fight over it when my great aunt made it for Christmas dinner.
