I love pea and ham soup on a cold winters day. My Dad loved it too so now when I have it, it reminds me of the times we spent cooking it together.

Ingredients For pea and ham soup

  • 1 pkg
    dried split peas 16 oz
  • 1
    meaty ham bone, 2 ham hocks or 2 cups of diced ham
  • 3 lg
    carrots, chopped
  • 1/2 c
    onion chopped
  • 2 lg
    celery stalks chopped
  • 2 clove
    garlic minced
  • 2 tsp
    dried parsley
  • 2
    bay leaves, dried
  • 1 tsp
    seasoned salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    pepper
  • 1 1/2 qt
    hot water

How To Make pea and ham soup

    Layer ingredients in slow cooker in the order given; pour in water. Do not stir ingredients. Cover and cook on HIGH 4 to 5 hours or on low 8 to 10 hours until peas are very soft and ham falls off bone. Remove bones and bay leaves. Mash peas to thicken more, if desired. Or blend in a blender if desired. Serve garnished with croutons. Freezes well. Serves 8.
