My grandmother used to make this sweet and sour soup and can it. EVERY time I make this, it gets rave reviews. Grandma would be flattered by all the "mmmmmmmmmmmmmms." Great with crusty bread or rolls.

Ingredients For grandma's vegetable soup

    celery, diced large
  • 2
    carrots, diced large
  • 1 md
    onion, diced
  • 1 md
    head of cabbage, chopped large
  • 1 lb
    stew beef, cut into small pieces
  • 3 lg
    potatoes, peeled and diced large
  • 1 can
    tomato juice or v-8
  • 1/4 c
    ketchup
  • 2 Tbsp
    white vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp
    olive or canola oil
  • 1/4 c
    sugar
  • salt and pepper to taste

How To Make grandma's vegetable soup

    In a large stock pot, brown meat in oil. Add onion and continue until softened. Add the rest of the ingredients. Give it a good stir.

    Reduce heat and simmer all day. The aroma alone will make you crazy hungry. Enjoy!
