This is a recipe for stuffed cabbage. Many people call them galumpkes, my mom called them chalapches - but everyone loves them. Let me know what you think!

Ingredients For mom's stuffed cabbage

  • 1 lg
    head of cabbage
  • 1 lb
    ground beef - raw
  • 1/2 c
    cooked rice
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 tsp
    pepper (or to taste)
  • 1 can
    stewed tomatoes
  • 1 can
    6 oz. tomato sauce
  • 3 or 4 Tbsp
    distilled white vinegar
  • 3 or 4 Tbsp
    sugar

How To Make mom's stuffed cabbage

    Cut around stalk of cabbage & place head of cabbage in boiling water, just long enough to remove each leaf. Remove leaves to use for cabbage rolls.

    Combine ground beef with cooked rice, salt and pepper.

    In large kettle, combine stewed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and equal amounts of vinegar and sugar (3 or 4 tbs.).

    Take small scoop of ground beef mixture - place on one end of cabbage leaf, roll, tucking ends in to seal. Place cabbage rolls in kettle with other ingredients.

    Bring to boil, reduce to simmer, and simmer, slowly, for 3 to 4 hours.
