Ingredients For string bean casserole #1 (martha guice)

  • 1 can
    string beans (fresh beans may be used after cooked)
  • 1 can
    cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 can
    french fried onion rings
  • 4 or 5
    pats butter or margarine
  • 1 slice
    bread, crumbled
  • grated cheese for topping
  • 1 can
    water chestnuts, chopped
  • 1 jar
    pimiento, cut in slivers or chopped

    Cook beans with a thin slice of onion, about 5 minutes (optional).

    Make layers of the ingredients in a casserole dish. Put some beans and cooked onion in casserole dish.

    Then add some soup, some fried onions, then thin slivers of pimiento, another layer of beans,butter, more soup, and water chestnuts (if used), crumbled bread, grated cheese, and fried onions on top.

    Bake in a greased Corningware dish. Bake at 250 to 300 degrees F. for 1 hour.
