I wanted to make some cheesy potatoes. This is my version.

Ingredients For scalloped potatoes

  • 4-6 md
    potatoes
  • 1/2 md
    onion
  • 1 Tbsp
    butter, melted
  • 1 pinch
    sugar
  • dash
    salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 c
    cheddar cheese, shredded
  • FOR THE SAUCE
  • 1 can
    evaporated milk
  • 2 Tbsp
    flour

How To Make scalloped potatoes

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Peel and thinly slice the potatoes. Set aside in cold water to soak for 5 minutes.

    Peel and finely dice the onion. Heat a frying pan over medium heat. Melt 1 Tbs. butter in the frying pan. Add the onion and sprinkle it with a pinch of sugar. Saute til golden brown. Remove from heat.

    Drain the potatoes. Lightly grease an 8X8 baking dish.

    To layer the casserole, spread half of the potatoes in the baking dish. Sprinkle with half of the onions. Season with salt and pepper. Top with 1 C of shredded cheese. Repeat with remaining ingredients. Repeat once.

    For the sauce: Stir the flour into the can of evaporated milk. Pour over the potatoes and cheese. Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour.

    Notes: You can add leftover meat to this to make it a meal. Ham, chicken, ground beef will all work
