This recipe came from my Filipino family members. In the Philippines, it is tradition to eat this dish on special occasions for good luck. The rice stix can be found in most Asian markets.

Ingredients For ponsit

  • 1/4 tsp
    black pepper
  • 1/2 c
    soy sauce
  • 1
    onion, chopped fine
  • 1
    cabbage head, shredded
  • 3
    pork chops
  • 2
    carrots, chopped fine
  • 1 stalk
    celery, chopped fine
  • 1 pkg
    rice stix

How To Make ponsit

  • 1
    Soak rice stix in cold water for two or three minutes and break in half.

    Boil pork chops in water until tender. Remove them from the water and cut into very small pieces.

    Put 3 tablespoons oil in Dutch oven and add pork chops, onions, carrots, and celery. Saute approximately 5 minutes.

    Add broth from pork chops and simmer for 4 minutes.

    Add cabbage and bring to boil.

    Add rice stix and stir until moist. Approximately 3 minutes.

    Add 1/2 cup soy sauce and black pepper. Serve warm or cold.
