This mouth-watering relish is a must have when eating hamburgers or hot dogs. Also a very good way to use up all those green tomates in the garden.

Ingredients For russ's hamburger relish

  • 3 c
    ground onions
  • 4 c
    ground green tomatoes
  • 6
    ground sweet red peppers
  • 4 c
    ground green cabbage
  • 12
    ground green peppers
  • 1/2 c
    canning salt
  • 1 Tbsp
    celery seed
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    turmeric powder
  • 4 c
    cider vinegar
  • 6 c
    sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    mustard seed
  • 2 c
    water

How To Make russ's hamburger relish

  • 1
    Using a food processor (course blade), grind up all the vegetables. In a large mixing bowl, combine and mix all the vegetables. Sprinkle with the canning salt, cover, and let stand overnight.

    Drain and rinse vegetables. place in a large pot. Meanwhile, in another large sauce pan, combine all other ingredients and bring to boil.

    Pour hot liquid over vegetables, mix gently. Heat to boiling point and simmer 5 minutes. Ladle into sterlized jars. Hot water bath (10 minutes)
