This is a semi-tart applesauce. If you can't find Staymen apples, granny smith will do but you may need to add some sugar to tame the tartness. (Note: 42 pounds is equal to 1 bushel of apples.)

  • 42 lb
    staymen apples
  • 21 lb
    red delicious apples
  • 2 gal
    apple cider or apple juice
  • water, if needed to cover

How To Make debbi's homemade applesauce

    Peel, core, and cube apples into a large stock pot. (note: I have to do this in several batches.) Cook apples on stove top until soft. Run apples through a food mill. At this point you can stir in cinnamon, if desired. Pour into pint size or quart-sized jars and process in a water bath for 20 minutes.
