Many years ago, someone in the family collected recipes from descendants of my great grandparents, William M. and Florence E. (Snodgrass) Whaley and had them compiled into a cookbook. I am posting those recipes here so that they will not be lost. This recipe was submitted by Wanda Schomp.

Ingredients For 24 hour slaw

  • 3/4 c
    oil
  • 1 c
    apple cider vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp
    sugar
  • 1
    cabbage head
  • 34/ c
    sugar
  • 1 dash
    salt
  • 1 lg
    onion, diced
  • 1 Tbsp
    celery seed
  • 1
    green bell pepper, diced

How To Make 24 hour slaw

  • 1
    Combine oil, vinegar and 2 tablespoons sugar in saucepan; bring to a boil
  • 2
    Shred cabbage; add 3/4 cup sugar, salt, diced onion, diced pepper and celery seed.

    Pour heated dressing over slaw mixture and refrigerate (overnight, if possible).
