My family loves this slightly spicy version of a New Orleans style creole dish. I created this as a crock pot meal for busy weekdays. I have the rice steaming as the shrimp cooks and I prepare a green salad. Add some crusty bread for a special meal that my husband and kids love!

Ingredients For yo mama's crock pot creole

  • 2 c
    chopped white onion
  • 2 c
    chopped green bell pepper
  • 2 c
    chopped celery
  • 28 oz can
    petite or regular-sized diced tomatoes
  • 1 Tbsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp
    ground thyme
  • 1 Tbsp
    creole seasoning
  • 13 oz
    chopped smoked beef sausage or cajun style andouille sausage
  • 24 oz
    fresh or thawed frozen medium or large peeled shrimp
  • 1 c
    frozen okra (optional)
  • hot pepper sauce

How To Make yo mama's crock pot creole

    Combine first seven ingredients in crock pot and cook on low heat for 3 hours.

    Stir in sausage. Add okra if desired. Stir well and cook for 2 1/2 more hours.

    Add shrimp and stir well to combine. Cook an additional 30 minutes until shrimp turn pink and are cooked through.

    Serve over steamed white rice with hot pepper sauce to taste.
