This is a sweet and sour dish. We enjoy this all year long as it is quick and easy and most of all delicious. You may want to add cooked broccoli or cooked carrots to this for more color and flavor.

Ingredients For waikiki sausage

  • 2 (13 oz) pkg
    smoked beef sausage, sliced into rounds
  • 4 Tbsp
    cornstarch
  • 2 (13oz) can
    pineapple tidbits, drained, reserve juice
  • 1 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 2/3 c
    cider vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp
    soy sauce, low sodium
  • 1 small can
    sliced water chestnuts, drained
  • 3 to 4 c
    cooked white rice

How To Make waikiki sausage

    In a large non-stick skillet, brown sausage slices and set aside. Combine cornstarch, pineapple juice, brown sugar, vinegar and soy sauce. Pour into skillet and cook, stirring constantly until sauce thickens and boils. Continue cooking 1 more minute, then add the sausage back to the pan along with the pineapple and water chestnuts. Let simmer, stirring frequently until heated through. Serve over the cooked rice.
