Ingredients For spanish rice

  • 1 Tbsp
    canola or vegetable oil
  • 1 sm
    onion, chopped
  • 1/2 md
    green pepper, chopped (optional)
  • 1 lb
    lean ground beef
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    black pepper
  • 1 Tbsp
    prepared mustard
  • 2 Tbsp
    catsup
  • 1 Tbsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • 3 c
    cooked rice
  • 1 can
    (28 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained

How To Make spanish rice

    Tip #1 Rice secret #1, is in NOT STIRRING. It kind of goes against what feels natural, but it makes all the difference. Not stirring allows the rice to cook without getting mushy. Tip #2 Rice secret #2 Sauteing the dry rice in oil prior to adding the liquid also makes all the difference.

    In a large pan or skillet, saute onion and green pepper in the oil until soft. Add ground beef and seasonings, stirring until meat loses its pink color.

    Stir in the cooked rice, tomatoes, catsup, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix thoroughly

    Reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 15 minutes.

    Garnish with chopped cilantro and shredded cheddar cheese, if desired.
