This is a recent venture for my husband and I, as I became tired of getting cold pizza delivered or it wasn't what we ordered. I began hunting around for an easy way to make it on the grill and this is what we came up with. You can vary your toppings of course. We have it down to a science almost and it is pretty darn good pizza!

Ingredients For our pizza on the grill

  • 1
package of pizza dough from the grocery store in the frozen section. they usually carry both white and wheat.
  • 1 pkg
mozzarella cheese or cheese of your choice
  • 1/2 jar
    your favorite pizza sauce
  • 1 clove
    garlic finely chopped (optional)
  • parmesan cheese
  • pepperoni, onions, green peppers, sausage, jalapenos or any other ingredients you would like on your pizza

How To Make our pizza on the grill

  • 1
Remove thawed pizza dough from package. Sprinkle a little cornmeal on a cutting board or pastry board and using a rolling pin, roll out the dough to about a 12 inch circle. If you have a pizza peel, put the dough on the peel as it is easier to put on the grill. If not, put the rolled out dough on a cookie sheet and take out to the preheated grill.

Flip over the peel or cookie sheet to put the dough on the grill. Cook for about 1 to 2 min per side. The dough might bubble up but that is ok. I like the dough a little more cooked on the side I am putting the toppings on. Dough should be very lightly browned or at least seared with grill marks. It should not look like raw dough. A minute or two is all that is needed. Use tongs to flip the dough over and then remove to a cookie sheet. Bring back into the house because now the fun starts!

Leave the pizza on the cookie sheet (we use a sheet cake pan). Put on the sauce, about 1/2 to 3/4 of a jar. Then add your cheese. Put on your toppings and sprinkle garlic over the top if using. Once pizza is ready to cook...take back out to the grill and put the whole thing, pan and all on the grill. Yes, leave the pizza in the pan. Lower the lid and cook for a few minutes lifting the lid once in a while to check when the cheese has melted, especially in the middle of the pizza. The bottom can brown very quickly so make sure it is not burning by checking under the edges. It takes about 7 to 10 minutes depending on how heavy handed I am that day with the cheese! Once it is done to your liking...bring the pan in the house and let sit for a couple of minutes. Then move the pizza to a cutting board, and use your pizza cutting wheel or just a sharp knife and cut the pieces as large or small as you want.
