This is a hearty meaty main dish recipe that your whole family will love. I've had it for 30 years but do not remember where I found it.

Ingredients For chuck wagon beans

  • 1/2 lb
    bacon slices
  • 3 lb
    ground beef
  • 1
    small onion chopped
  • 1 c
    finely chopped celery
  • 2/3 c
    beef broth (can use bouillon)
  • dash of minced garlic
  • 1 1/2 c
    catsup
  • 3 Tbsp
    prepared mustard
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    pepper
  • 2
    1lb 13 oz cans molasses-style baked beans

How To Make chuck wagon beans

    In Dutch oven, fry bacon until crisp. Remove and drain. Pour drippings from pan. In same pan, brown ground beef; add onions and celery; cook until tender. Stir in broth and remaining ingredients. Cover and simmer 1 1/2 hour on top of stove until hot and bubbly; or bake in oven at 350 degrees. Crumble bacon and sprinkle over beans. Makes 12 (1 cup) servings.
