Ingredients For sloppy joes

  • 3 lb
    ground meat of choice
  • 3 can
    6 oz tomato paste
  • 3 c
    water
  • 3 Tbsp
    onion flakes, dehydrated
  • 3 Tbsp
    paprika
  • 6 Tbsp
    brown sugar
  • 3 tsp
    cumin
  • 3 tsp
    salt
  • 3 tsp
    cornstarch
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 3/4 tsp
    ground mustard
  • 3/4 tsp
    celery seed
  • 3/4 tsp
    pepper

How To Make sloppy joes

  • 1
Works best with thawed meat!! Place meat in crockpot and crumble with a spoon. (If you must use frozen meat, either thaw in microwave or place in crockpot and cook for at least one hour before adding other ingredients. It's best for the working moms, to plan this and have the meat fully thawed before hand.)
  • 2
Add spices, tomato past and water. Mix well.
  • 3
Cover and cook on low for 6-7 hours or high for 3-5 hours. (Times depend on your pot, carefully watch the first time you make it and notate the accuracy needed for your pot.) Meat is done when it is crumbly and fully cooked.
  • 4
Serve with hamburger buns, cheese, and preferred toppings.

OPTIONAL: I like toasted buns, so I heat mine in the oven with a light spread of butter on the "whites" before topping with meat and cheese. Kids don't care, they just want to eat!
