These can be sloppy if you try to pick them up, but they are not intended to be eaten that way. I ran out of buns one day but had some Texas Toast (thick sliced bread). I got creative in the kitchen and made garlic bread with it then made up our special Joe sauce and put it on top. Let me tell you, sometimes things work out the best that way. We won't have them with the regular buns again. This is shockingly fabulous!

Ingredients For scotty joe's

  • 3 lb
    ground beef
  • 2 lg
    yellow onions, diced
  • 3 md
    bell peppers (i like to use a variety of colors)
  • 1 c
    ketchup
  • 1 c
    diced tomatoes (not drained, with juices)
  • 4 clove
    garlic
  • 2 Tbsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp
    celery seed
  • 1 can
    beef consumme (soup size)
  • 3 Tbsp
    all purpose flour
  • FOR THE BREAD
  • large garlic clove
  • butter for spreading
  • texas toast bread
  • TOPPINGS
  • shredded cheese
  • diced onions

How To Make scotty joe's

  • 1
    Saute your garlic, onions and peppers in a large skillet until translucent. Remove from your pan.

    Brown your ground beef in a large skillet and drain. (just until done, don't over cook) Sprinkle and incorporate your flour into the ground beef then blend in your onions and peppers.

    Transfer your meat mixture into a large sauce pot. Add your ketchup, diced tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, celery seed and consume. simmer for 30 minutes stirring occasionally.

    peel and cut in half one large garlic clove.

    Prepare a cookie sheet with your slices of texas toast placed on it. Spread evenly with butter and brown in your broiler. (DON'T LEAVE YOUR OVEN)

    When your toast is done, take your garlic clove and rub the toasted bread.

    Place one slice on a plate, spoon out your sauce on top. Garnish with cheese and onions!
