After finding out in 1993 that my grandfather was actually Jewish, I decided to embrace my heritage. I have tried many recipes and this is used for New Year's celebrations. It is unique and delicious!!

Ingredients For jewish salad

  • 3 lb
    ground beef
  • 1 lg
    onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 3 can
    (15oz) green peas
  • 1 md
    head of cabbage
  • 2-3 Tbsp
    olive oil
  • 5 lb
    potatoes, cubed
  • INGREDIENTS FOR SAUCE
  • 1 c
    mayonnaise
  • 1/3 c
    apple cider vinegar
  • 1/3 c
    water

How To Make jewish salad

    Brown ground beef with chopped onion adding garlic powder as well as salt and pepper to taste.

    Heat canned peas while grating cabbage.
  • 3
    Use 1 tablespoon of olive oil in large skillet to brown potato cubes.

    Layer everything as follows in large casserole dish: first the cabbage, then add ground beef mixture after being drained,green peas after being drained, then top with browned potatoes.

    Mix the sauce ingredients together and pour over salad mixture.

    You will probably need to make more sauce, I usually double the recipe. It is to be added to each individual serving as desired.
