I love Chili and over the years I have made and loved many recipes. When I made this recipe I knew I had found the best one yet. I consider this a "make ahead" dish.

Ingredients For jan's chili

  • 2 lb
    ground beef
  • 2 - 15 oz. can
    tomato sauce
  • 16 oz
    water
  • 2 lg
    onions, chopped
  • 8 ounce can
    chopped green chilies, drained
  • 1 c
    chopped celery
  • 2 can
    beef broth
  • 1 c
    chopped green peppers
  • 1/2 c
    fresh cilantro ( or 1 1/2 tablespoons dried cilantro)
  • 3 tsp
    cumin
  • 3 tsp
    chili powder
  • 1 tsp
    oregano, dried
  • garlic powder, to taste
  • salt and pepper, to taste

How To Make jan's chili

  • 1
    Brown ground beef and chopped onions together in a large stock pan.

    Add the remaining ingredients. Heat to boiling, lower heat and simmer, uncovered, for 3 hours. Stirring often.

    Cooks note: The flavor increases on the second day. I always make this the day before I plan on serving it.
