As with a lot of my recipes, this was handed down from my grandmother, to my mother, and then to me (and my siblings). This recipe has always been a staple in our household and we LOVE it! I love all kinds of meatloaves, but nothing beats grandma's!

Ingredients For grandma's meatloaf

  • 1 1/2 lb
    ground beef
  • 2/3 c
    oatmeal, uncooked
  • 1/4 c
    white onions, diced
  • 1/2 c
    green pepper, diced
  • 4 oz
    button mushroom, thinly-medium sliced
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    black pepper, freshly ground
  • 1/3 c
    milk
  • 2 1/2 Tbsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • ketchup

How To Make grandma's meatloaf

  • 1
    Pre-heat oven to 350°.
  • 2
Mix wet ingredients in a mixing bowl with vegetables.
  • 3
Mix dry ingredients in a separate bowl.
  • 4
Pour dry ingredients into mixing bowl with wet ingredients and mix together.

Place meatloaf mixture on a greased cookie sheet. I like to cook my Meatloaf on a cookie sheet rather than in a meatloaf dish (more room for that yummy caramelized ketchup!). I spread it somewhat thin (perhaps an inch high) and then smother in ketchup to taste. I use enough ketchup to get it nice and caramelized and still have a slight bit of juiciness underneath.

Put on the lower oven rack and cook for 1 1/2 - 2 hours until meat is thoroughly cooked and ketchup is nice a caramelized.
