Yeah, I finally came across a dinner recipe of Grammie's. I hope to find a few more hidden in the pages of her cookbooks but for now this is a classic dish that so many enjoy. I will look forward to making it and having it for dinner soon. 3/21/2012 --- Made this tonight for dinner and it was delicious. I cooked it in a small glass pan so the sauce came up half way in the dish and I basted it about every 15 to 20 minutes. I had enough sauce that I just drizzled it over some steamed potatoes and sliced meatloaf too. Yumm!!! Hope you enjoy.

Ingredients For grammie's meatloaf

  • MEATLOAF
  • 1 1/2 lb
    ground beef
  • 1 c
    fresh bread crumbs
  • 1 md
    onion, chopped
  • 1/2 can
    hunt's tomato sauce
  • 1 lg
    egg, beaten
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    pepper
  • SWEET AND SOUR SAUCE
  • 1/2 can
    hunt's tomato sauce
  • 1 c
    water
  • 2 Tbsp
    vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp
    mustard
  • 2 Tbsp
    brown sugar or molasses

How To Make grammie's meatloaf

    Lightly mix above ingredients for meatloaf, form into a loaf. Place in pan and cook at 350 degrees.

    While it is starting to bake, combine the following ingredients above to make a sweet and sour sauce. over loaf in oven, continue baking 1 1/2 hours, basting occasionally.

    I drain off some of the juices and add the sweet & tangy sauce for the top & bake 1/2 hr longer.

    Invert the meatloaf on a serving platter. (Platter is my Grandmother's as well. I love this particular glass. I have a pitcher and glasses that match it.)
