Arizona Green Tea is one of my favorite beverages, so I thought I'd try and figure out the flavor so I could save money AND know for sure the quality of the ingredients that are in it. I think I nailed it! You be the judge. Also you can just tweak the ingredients to give yourself the level of sweet and/or tartness that you like. Even if this recipe isn't perfect this Ice Tea recipe is YUMMY! And is perfect with anything especially Asian dishes! its a keeper!

Ingredients For ginger and green ice tea

  • water, boiling
  • ginger, fresh, chopped
  • green tea
  • tamarind (optional)
  • lime or lemon, juice
  • honey, raw
  • brown sugar, raw

How To Make ginger and green ice tea

  • 1
take a beverage container you will be using to store the finish product and fill with water. This is how you measure the water content. I used a liter plastic bottle for this. Pour the water into a large pot and turn heat to medium high.

clean the raw ginger, cut of any bruises, and chop with skin on. Use about 1/3 cup per liter (more or less). Ginger gives this tea a nice spicy bite. I like a lot of ginger in mine. Add the chopped fresh ginger to pot. cover and bring to bowl, turn the heat to low / low to medium and let it bowl for 15 minutes. Turn off heat and let seep for 45 minutes. It is cooling off too, which is what you want. Add about 1/4 cup raw tamarind. It usually comes in a chunk with seeds so slice off a piece. this adds minerals plus a nice tartness to off set the sweetness. But it is unnecessary to get the flavor. Mix till it devolves.

while the water is still very hot to the touch, Add about 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup of Green Tea. Let seep for 10 minutes. Usually you seep Green Tea for 2 to 3 minutes tops or it gets bitter, but in this beverage bitter is good and can be dealt with when adding the sweeteners. Now add the juice of one small lime or small lemon. I like my Ice Tea TARTY!

Now add about 1/3 to 1/2 cup of raw honey and/or brown dulce sugar (which is raw sugar cane...and the color is brown. Just add to taste till you get the right sweet to tartness you like and make a note of it.

Let the mixture cool down to almost lukewarm - then pour it through a strainer right into the container you have for it. I used a thick plastic one that can withstand heat and does not leach plastic into the beverage (there is a name for it, but I don't remember) I would prefer a glass jug but I don't have one. Chill it in the refrigerator for a hour or so. Speed this up by putting it in the freezer. And enjoy.
