I always picture this drink being drunk in front of a roaring fire in a ski lodge somewhere in New England. Probably because I have done it myself, though not in New England--I think it was Michigan. Anyway, there is nothing like it to scare away the chills! Recipe & photo: liquor.com

Ingredients For hot buttered rum

  • HOT BUTTERED RUM BATTER
  • 1 lb
    butter, room temperature
  • 1 lb
    brown sugar
  • 1 lb
    sugar
  • 1 Tbsp
    ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp
    ground cloves
  • 1 tsp
    ground nutmeg
  • 1 qt
    vanilla ice cream, softened slightly
  • HOT BUTTERED RUM COCKTAIL
  • 1 1/2 oz
    rum
  • 1 Tbsp
    hot buttered rum batter, frozen
  • boiling water

How To Make hot buttered rum

  • 1
    For the batter: Add all the ingredients except the ice cream to a bowl and stir to combine. Add the ice cream and stir again. Transfer to a container with a lid, seal and store in the freezer.

    For the cocktail: Add the rum and batter to a mug. Fill with boiling water and stir.
