I believe this recipe is one of Gramma Newyear's experiments that we all liked. She did enjoy going thru magazines and testing recipes. Sometimes they worked and other times we all refused to even taste things.

Ingredients For danish puff bars

  • 1 c
    flour
  • 1/2 c
    butter
  • 2 Tbsp
    water
  • TOP
  • 1 c
    boiling water
  • 1/2 c
    butter
  • 1 tsp
    almond extract
  • 1 c
    flour
  • 3
    eggs
  • FROSTING
  • 1 Tbsp
    browned butter
  • 1 c
    powdered sugar

How To Make danish puff bars

  • 1
    Crust - Mix the first 3 ingredients like pie crust. Spread and flatten into 2 ovals shapes on a large cookie sheet.

    Top - Heat water to boiling along with water and almond extract. Stir in flour and cook until the mixture leaves the sides of the pan (like for cream puffs). Remove from the heat and stir in the eggs one at a time. Spread this over the crust on the pans. Bake for 1 hour at 350.

    Frosting - Brown the butter in a small pan and stir in the powdered sugar. Spread sparingly on the cooled bars.

    These need to be eaten quickly if it is humid outside. They do not store well.
