Since my son is lactose intolerant, I try to keep dairy products out of the house, just in case the babysitter forgets or my roommate's very sharing 3 year old gives him a bite of something he can't have. With the summer coming and our resolution to keep ice cream out of the house (which is probably going to hurt us more than them) I started looking for cold sweet treat alternatives. My Aunt Liddy gave me this "guideline" recipe, so far I have made strawberry banana, blueberry peach, orange (came out really soft) and mango. I'm hooked!

Ingredients For easy fruit sorbet

  • 4 c
frozen fruit (any type, mix n match even!)
  • 1/2 c
    orange juice
  • 1 Tbsp
    lemon juice
  • 1 Tbsp
    lime juice
  • 6 Tbsp
    agave syrup (or honey)

How To Make easy fruit sorbet

  • 1
In a saucepan over low heat, warm orange juice and agave syrup (or honey) until the syrup is dissolved, stirring constantly. Should only take a few minutes. DO NOT let it start to bubble, as soon as it looks dissolved take it off the heat. Let it cool completely.

Cut up the fruit (if necessary) into small chunks to make it easier to blend. Place the fruit, lemon juice, lime juice, and syrup in a blender until completely smooth and creamy. You'll have to stop a few times and scrape the sides of the blender.

Freeze immediately. Before serving, allow to set out a few moments to soften.

Variation: If you are making this for adults, add a 2 tablespoons of vodka/rum/etc to the blender. This helps it from freezing too solid and will give a softer texture. I haven't tried it this way, but my aunt tells me that if you don't want an alcohol flavor in it to use vodka.

Serving suggestion: To dress this up, serve in a martini/margarita glass with sliced fruit and a sprinkle of granola or sweet toasted nuts.
