Ingredients For baklava

  • FOR THE SYRUP
  • 1 1/4 c
    water
  • 1 1/4 c
    sugar
  • 1 tsp
    lemon juice
  • FOR THE BAKLAVA
  • 1 pkg
    filo sheets
  • 1/2 c
    unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 c
    hazelnuts, chopped (or any nuts)
  • 1/2 tsp
    cinnamon

How To Make baklava

    For the syrup: in a saucepan dissolve the sugar in the water over medium heat then add the lemon juice. Bring to boil then let it boil softly for 15 - 20 minutes. Set aside to cool while you make the baklava.

    For the baklava: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brush a large rectangular oven pan with melted butter. Take half the filo sheets and lay them in the pan.

    Spread the chopped nuts evenly on top, sprinkle with the cinnamon then add the rest of the filo sheets. Cut into diamonds or squares. Using a brush spread the melted butter over the top concentrating on the cut lines and around the rim so that it would penetrate through the layers.

    Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes or till light golden brown. Take out of the oven and immediately pour the cool syrup all over.
