I got this recipe from a Land O Lakes Butter pamphlet. I had forgotten about these cookies. They are rich, cake-like cookies that are buttery and delicious. The glaze is the finishing touch. Picture from Land O Lakes Butter.

Ingredients For vanilla glazed snow cookies

  • 1/2 c
    butter, softened
  • 3/4 c
    sugar
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 c
    buttermilk
  • 1
    egg
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1 3/4 c
    all purpose flour
  • 3/4 tsp
    baking soda
  • GLAZE
  • 1 3/4 c
    powdered sugar
  • 1/4 tsp
    vanilla
  • 2 to 3 Tbsp
    water
  • DECORATIONS
  • hard peppermint candies, coarsely chopped, holiday sprinkles/colored sugar, or decorator candies

How To Make vanilla glazed snow cookies

    Heat oven to 350 degrees.

    Combine butter, sugar and salt in a large bowl; beat at medium speed until creamy. Add buttermilk, egg and vanilla; continue beating until mixed. Reduce speed to low; add flour and baking soda. Beat until well mixed.

    Drop dough by rounded teaspoonsfuls, 1-inch apart, onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 8 to 9 minutes or until cookies are set and bottoms are lightly browned. Remove to cooling rack; cool completely.

    Combine powdered sugar and vanilla in medium bowl; stir in water for desired consistency. Spread glaze over cooled cookies. Decorate with candies.

    NOTE: you can freeze these cookies BEFORE glazing; otherwise they can become soggy under the glaze. Glaze and decorate cookies after thawing.
