If you love the taste of sugar cookies, but don’t want spend the entire afternoon flouring your counter top, rolling out the dough, cutting out the dough, baking the dough, decorating the cookies…then these simple Sugar Cookies are for you,No rolling and cutting necessary. Top them with a heavenly vanilla buttercream frosting and you will be in a happy place,You can, of course tint the frosting any color you would like. red and green for Christmas goodies.

Ingredients For sugar cookies

  • 4 1/2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 4 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp
    salt
  • 3 stick
    unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 3 lg
    eggs
  • 5 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • for frosting
  • 2 stick
    unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 3-4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1 Tbsp
    milk or cream as needed

How To Make sugar cookies

    To make the cookies, preheat the oven to 350 F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper . Set aside

    In a medium bowl combine the flour, baking powder and salt, and whisk together to blend
  • 3
    In the bowl of an electric mixer, combine the butter and sugar and beat together on medium-high speed until soft and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition and scraping down the bowl as needed. Blend in the vanilla. With the mixer on low speed, add in the dry ingredients mixing just until incorporated and evenly mixed. Cover and chill the dough for 1 hour.

    When you are ready to bake the cookies, scoop a scant quarter cup of dough and roll into a ball. Flatten the ball slightly and place on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining dough, spacing the cookies at least 2-3 inches apart. Bake about 10-12 minutes or just until set. (Don't over bake- the cookies will be very pale and the edges will only be slightly golden

    Let cool on the baking sheet for several minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely

    For Frosting In a medium sized bowl, whip the butter with an electric mixer until creamy and fluffy. Gradually add 3 cups of the powdered sugar, one cup at a time and mix until thick and well-combined. Add the vanilla and a tablespoon of milk or cream, and mix on medium high until fluffy. If you want to thin your frosting out a bit- add more milk, OR- add more sugar if you want it to be stiffer Fit a frosting bag with a large, star tip. (I used Wilton #1M and Wilton violet food color
