Growing up I was Greek Orthodox. When a member of the church or loved one of a member of the church had passed away, it was custom to make these cookies. Trays of these cookies were brought and family members stood behind tables as you went from table to table giving condolences to the family members and taking a cookie. Customary, these are made in a donut shape. I oftentimes just make them round for ease. Now that I am grown and no longer Greek Orthodox, I just make these for my family because they love them. These are fabulous with coffee.
