This is an old recipe from Gramma Bea's box. It came from her Gramma Zimmerman. It is a very old recipe so you an replace the lard with shortening. It is a simple but delious cookie.

Ingredients For ice box cookies

  • 2 c
    brown sugar
  • 2 c
    white sugar
  • 3/4 c
    butter
  • 3/4 c
    lard
  • 4
    eggs
  • 1 c
    chopped nuts
  • 6 c
    flour
  • 2 tsp
    soda in 1 t. hot water
  • 2 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1 tsp
    salt

How To Make ice box cookies

    Mix in order. That is all the recipe says. Some of these older recipes just assume you know a lot about baking. Instructions to follow.

    Cream sugars, butter and lard together. Add eggs. Stir in soda, vanilla and salt. Now add the flour. You can either add the chopped nuts to the cookies or save them a sprinkle them on top when you bake them.

    Roll the dough into several logs and wrap in waxed paper. Chill for several hours. Then slice and bake at 350 for 10 to 12 min.
