black cat cookies (no cookie cutter needed!)

This is an old recipe that I originally found on Land O Lakes butter, but it has also been printed in Taste of Home Magazine. I make these as cookies every year to serve with home-made apple cider on Halloween for the neighborhood kids.

Ingredients For black cat cookies (no cookie cutter needed!)

    butter
  • 2 c
    sugar
  • 2 lg
    eggs
  • 3 tsp
    vanilla
  • 3 c
    flour
  • 1 c
    baking cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 24
    craft sticks, if desired
  • 48
    candy corn candies
  • 24
    red hot candies

How To Make black cat cookies (no cookie cutter needed!)

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream butter and sugar, Beat in eggs and vanilla. Combine flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Gradually add to creamed mixture.

    Roll into 1 1/2" balls. Place 3" apart on greased baking sheet. Insert wooden stick (if using). Flatten with glass dipped in sugar. Pinch top of cookie into 2 triangles for ears. Use your thumb to indent the inside of the ear slightly. For whiskers, use a fork on each side of cookie to indent.

    Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 10-12 minutes or until done. Remove from oven and immediately press candy corn "eyes" and red hot nose into hot cookie. Remove to cooling rack.
