basic one dough, many cookies!

My aunt gave this to me when I first started to cook, 48 years ago. I love it so much that it's my go to cookie recipe because you can make so many types of cookies from the same batch of dough.

Ingredients For basic one dough, many cookies!

  • 1 c
    butter (i use butter flavor crisco)
  • 3/4 c
    granulated sugar
  • 3/4 c
    light brown sugar
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 2 1/4 tsp
    all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    water if needed. i use larger eggs so don't use the water
  • OPTIONAL: CHOCOLATE CHIPS, COCONUT, NUTS, PEANUT BUTTER, ETC.

How To Make basic one dough, many cookies!

    Cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Add eggs and vanilla.

    Add remaining dry ingredients. Mix until smooth. At this point I divide the dough into several smaller bowls and add ingredients from the optional list to make several types of cookies from the same cookie dough. This is especially handy if you are having a party or for cookie exchanges.

    Chill dough in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Drop by spoonfuls or a cookie dropper onto parchment paper. Flatten slightly. Bake 375 degrees for 10 minutes. Yield 30 nice size cookies.
