My favorite kind of brownie is one that has frosting. These are good to bring to a potluck because they make lots.

Ingredients For texas brownies

  • 2 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 2 c
    granulated sugar
  • 1/2 c
    butter or margarine
  • 1/2 c
    shortening
  • 1 c
    strong brewed coffee or water
  • 1/4 c
    unsweetened cocoa
  • 1/2 c
    buttermilk
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • FROSTING:
  • 1/2 c
    butter or margarine
  • 2 Tbsp
    dark cocoa
  • 1/4 c
    milk
  • 3 1/2 c
    unsifted powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla

How To Make texas brownies

  • 1
    Combine flour and sugar in a large bowl. Combine butter, shortening, coffee or water, cocoa in a large heavy saucepan. Stir and heat to boiling.

    Pour boiling mixture over dry ingredients. Add buttermilk, eggs, baking soda and vanilla. Mix well with a wooden spoon. You can also use an electric mixer on high.

    Pour into a well-greased 17 1/2x11 inch jelly roll pan. Bake for 20 minutes at 400 degrees or until brownies test done.

    Prepare frosting while brownies bake. Combine butter, cocoa, and milk. Heat to boiling, stirring. Mix in powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth.

    Pour warm frosting over the brownies as soon as you take them out of the oven. Cool and cut into 48 bars.
