The original recipe used apple pie filling, gingerbread mix or spice cake, and a 7up. We have made it with many other flavors: Blueberry, French Vanilla, Cream Soda Cherry or Strawberry, Chocolate, Dr. Pepper or Coke Blackberry, French Vanilla, Cream Soda Peach, Spice, 7up This is so easy to transport into camp, easy to bake, and tastes wonderful!

Ingredients For tortoise's easy dump cake

  • 2 can
    any flavor pie filling
  • 1 box
    any flavor cake mix
  • 1 can
    any flavor soda/pop

How To Make tortoise's easy dump cake

  • 1
    Put foil in the bottom of the Dutch Oven. Put the pie filling evenly in the bottom, sprinkle with the dry cake mix, and drizzle with the can of pop. Put Dutch Oven on top of 5-6 pieces of charcoal, then put 6 pieces on the lid (makes about 350 degrees temperature). Bake for about 30 minutes.
