This was a saved recipe card from a C&H powdered sugar box. It was in one of three recipe boxes my sister brought with her when she came to my wedding in February.

Ingredients For spice-prune cakes

  • PREHEAT OVEN TO 350 DEGREES.
  • 1/2 c
    butter or margerine
  • 1 c
    c&h golden brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 2
    eggs, unbeaten
  • 1 3/4 c
    sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1/8 tsp
    cloves
  • 1/2 tsp
    nutmeg
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 3/4 c
    buttermilk or sour milk
  • 1 c
    chopped, cooked prunes, well-drained

How To Make spice-prune cakes

    1) Combine butter and sugar thoroughly. Stir together flour, baking soda, salt, and spices. Mix alternately with buttermilk, stirring smooth after each addition. Stir in chopped prunes.

    Spoon into cupcake pans, filling each 2/3 full. Bake for 20 - 25 minutes or until cakes test done. Cool and frost. Makes 24 cupcakes.
