My daughter Noel and her six year old daughter Evie made this for dessert tonight...(6-22-11) it is so good... and very easy... Evie noticed that the strawberry slices looked like a heart and she put it on top of the whipped cream. This is my photo...

Ingredients For noel and evie's strawberry shortcake

  • STRAWBERRIES
  • 2 qt
    strawberries (washed, drained, hulled and sliced)
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1/4 c
    water
  • SHORT CAKE
  • 1
    loaf pound cake (cut into 1/2 to 1 inch thick slices)
  • TOPPING
  • 1
    batch whip cream or 1 container cool whip or whipped cream in a can

How To Make noel and evie's strawberry shortcake

    Wash, drain, hull and slice the strawberries. Put some in a bowl and mash with a potato masher along with the sugar and water. Add remaining sliced strawberries and refrigerate for at least an hour.

    Either have a home baked pound cake or a store bought pound cake on hand. Cut it into 1/2 inch to 1 inch thick slices. On each plate put a slice of pound cake.

    Spoon some strawberries and juice over the pound cake. *** At this point decide if you want to add another slice of pound cake and more strawberries ***

    Add whip cream on top of the strawberries. *** Garnish with a sliced strawberry or a whole strawberry ***

    Serve this up to your family and friends... and expect big smiles!

    Besides putting two layers of this together.... Place the slices of cake in a 9x13 inch pan. Cover with Cool Whip. Cover Cool Whip with Strawberries and top with more Cool Whip. Cut into squares or let people spoon it out pot luck style.
