My grandma used to make this recipe for the Holidays or on special occasions. We call it Grandma's Coffee cake. Even though the recipe is simple my Mom never could quite get it right. My Dad used to joke that the missing ingredient was Elsie's ashes. As she smoked cigarettes while she was cooking and the ashes were always hanging over the bowl.
